The 84-bed acute care hospital had planned to close oncology services as part of a restructuring plan unveiled last year.
Touting “another example of our ability to form effective partnerships throughout the region,” Sturgis President and CEO Robert LaBarge revealed Jan. 7 that the hospital will partner with Ascension Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo, Mich. to keep the cancer treatment center open.
Borgess will handle billing and provide other administrative services, hospital officials said.
The partnership will also allow Sturgis to continue oncology cooperation with Kalamazoo-based West Michigan Cancer Center, as well as other facilities and programs.
“This arrangement is very similar to those we have with Ascension Borgess and other regional providers in such areas as cardiology, neurosurgery and radiology,” said Mr. LaBarge.
The changes related to cancer treatment services are slated to take effect Jan. 15.
