For the report, Wamberg Genomic Advisors surveyed 204 U.S. cancer patients and loved ones about their healthcare experiences.

Three survey findings to know:

1. Forty-seven percent of individuals directly dealing with cancer said there was “no knowledgeable advocate” to help them find effective cancer treatments.

2. Thirty-five percent of respondents said they wished another cancer expert was available to advocate for them.

3. A majority (70 percent) of respondents had to undergo surgery, and 47 percent underwent radiation, chemotherapy or both. Thirty-six percent of respondents said they wanted better support in understanding the long-term side effects of these treatments.
