Ella Casano has idopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, an autoimmune disease that requires that she receive infusions every eight weeks. She created the stuffed animal pouch that conceals an IV bag because she was “surprised and a little bit intimidated by the look of the amount of tubing and medical equipment on my IV pole,” she explained on her business website.
“As I saw more and more children experiencing the same feelings, I became more interested in creating a friendlier experience for young IV patients, so I created Medi Teddy. I hope that Medi Teddy helps you just as much as it helps me!” she said on the website.
Ms. Casano launched a GoFundMe account for the pouch, hoping to collect $5,000 to help 500 children get a Medi Teddy. Ms. Casano has raised $19,641.
