Four key actions took place at UHN:

•    Define respectful OR behavior by creating a code of conduct team charter for the OR.
•    Empower and hold OR leadership team members accountable for managing conflicts by providing a coaching course for managers.
•    Create and follow clear guidelines for resolving conflicts and ensure consequences for repeat offenders.
•    Provide education on how to build a respectful workplace, maintain communication and uphold conflict resolution.

Following the implementation of the new action plan, employee opinion surveys showed an improved perception of OR culture. In order to sustain a culture of communication and respect, UHN provides quarterly recognition awards and ongoing education focused on wellness and communication skills.
