Governors lament struggle to combat opioid epidemic at NGA meeting

Multiple governors expressed concern regarding the intensifying pace of the opioid epidemic during a July 13 panel at the National Governors Association's summer meeting in Providence, R.I., according to The Providence Journal.

Richard Baum, acting director of President Donald Trump's Office of National Drug Control Policy, moderated the panel discussion. Panelists included Democratic Governors Gina Raimondo, R.I., and Roy Cooper, N.C., and Republican Governor Charlie Baker, Mass.

"I've talked to way too many moms and dads who've lost people in overdose," said Mr. Cooper, according to the Journal. "Four people a day in my state of North Carolina [die of drug overdoses]. It has to stop."
