Edgewood, Ky.-based St. Elizabeth Healthcare held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Sept. 29 for the opening of its $130 million cancer center.

These nine oncologists joined new practices or received new appointments in the last four weeks:

Amer Zureikat, MD, was named chief of surgical oncology at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center in Pittsburgh.

A federal grand jury returned an indictment against William Harwin, MD, founder and former president of Florida Cancer Specialists and Research Institute, for his alleged participation in a long-running antitrust conspiracy, the Department of Justice announced Sept. 24. 

Cleveland-based University Hospitals will use a $10 million gift to establish the Wesley Center for Immunotherapy at UH Seidman Cancer Center.

The new payment model for radiation oncology practices finalized by CMS does not address many of the community's key concerns, and its implementation should be delayed, according to the American Society for Radiation Oncology.

Seventeen U.S. cancer centers are coming together to study the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic with regard to delaying cancer detection, care and prevention.

Christus Trinity Mother Frances Health System plans to build an outpatient cancer treatment and research center in Tyler, Texas, the health system said Sept. 18.

An estimated 89,500 young Americans will be diagnosed with cancer in 2020, and 9,270 will die, according to a study published in CA: A Cancer Journal for Clinicians.
