The guidelines address diagnosis, treatment and post-therapy issues. AYA patients have lower rates of clinical trial enrollment, adequate health insurance and compliance with prescribed treatments, according to the release.
The guidelines suggest AYA patients be referred to cancer centers with expertise and experience in treating patients in this age group and their cancers. They also call for increased enrollment in clinical trials, a multidisciplinary approach to treatment and attention to the special physical and psychosocial issues of AYA patients.
