Two Alaska, Washington Providers Face Off in Cancer Center Dispute

Both Central Peninsula Hospital in Soldotna, Alaska, and Peninsula Cancer Center in Poulsbo, Wash., have proposed building a cancer treatment center in the central Kenai Peninsula in Alaska — an area they say needs only one such facility — but neither side is giving in, according to a Homer News report.

Peninsula Cancer Center wants to build a cancer center off — but near — the CPH campus, while CPH plans to build a center on campus. CPH contents that an on-campus cancer facility is more convenient for patients because they would not need transportation. However, Peninsula Cancer Center estimates most cancer center patients will not be hospital inpatients.

The Kenai Peninsula Borough plans to place an ordinance on the borough assembly agenda regarding the dispute.
