The 2024 “Vivian Healthcare Workforce Report” surveyed 863 clinicians between Dec. 12, 2023, and Jan. 11, 2024, in all 50 states plus the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. The survey covered topics such as mental health, burnout, work-family balance, workplace violence and patient ratios. Of the respondents, 57% worked in nursing, 27% in allied health, 12% as CMAs or CNAs, and 4% in advanced practice.
Of respondents, 42% reported feeling unsafe at work and 47% said they had experienced workplace violence against themselves or their coworkers in 2023.
Here is how clinicians said their administration handled workplace violence:
They ignored the complaint: 43%
They protected the victim and conducted a wellness check after the incident: 17%
They mediated the conflict between the perpetrator and the victim: 15%
They implemented better safety protocols to protect me and my peers: 13%
They sided with the perpetrator and the victim was reprimanded: 12%
