UCSF Plans $1.6B Medical Center at Mission Bay

University of California San Francisco is moving forward with plans to construct a $1.6 billion medical center at Mission Bay, according to a report by UCSF Today.

The 878,000-square-foot center will focus on the treatment of women, children and cancer patients and is expected to open by late 2104. It will feature a 183-bed children’s hospital, a 70-bed cancer hospital, women’s services, an energy center and a helipad.

The $1.6 billion facility will be funded by private donations, hospital reserves and external financing. UCSF hopes to raise $600 million in private donations for the facility through a capital campaign. To date, the campaign has garnered $225 million in donations.
