Senate Considering Medicaid Extension to Avert State Funding Reductions

A bill now on the floor of the Senate would extend $24 billion in enhanced federal aid to state Medicaid programs, according to a report by the Hill.

The measure, which states say is necessary to avert massive reductions in Medicaid payments next year, is part of a $140 billion “extenders” bill that Republicans and some centrist Democrats say is too costly.

The House has already passed its version of the extenders bill but it did not include the Medicaid extension.
