Senate Confirms Richard Frank as HHS Assistant Secretary

The Senate has confirmed Richard G. Frank, PhD, as HHS assistant secretary for planning and evaluation, according to a report from The Hill.

Dr. Frank — Margaret T. Morris Professor of Health Economics in the Harvard Medical School Department of Health Care Policy in Boston — was originally nominated by President Barack Obama this past September. While on leave from Harvard Medical School from August 2009 to March 2011, he served as the HHS deputy assistant secretary for planning and evaluation, directing the Office on Disability, Aging, and Long-Term Care Policy.

He will likely serve under Sylvia Mathews Burwell, the Obama administration's pick to replace Kathleen Sebelius. Earlier this week, the Senate Finance Committee approved Ms. Burwell's nomination, which will now move to the Senate floor for a vote. Her confirmation seems likely, according to the report.
