Poll Finds Voters Oppose Government Shutdown Over PPACA

Among registered voters, 47 percent say they will be less likely to vote for members of Congress who support shutting down the federal government if the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act isn't defunded, according to a poll conducted by The Morning Consult, a healthcare media company.

Of those surveyed, only 28 percent said they would be more likely to vote for lawmakers who call for a government shutdown, according to the poll. While 30 percent of voters support repealing the PPACA, 33 percent think Congress should make changes to improve the law. The poll also found that more than 30 percent of voters think Congress should implement the PPACA on time or expand it.

Republican lawmakers asked leaders in the House and Senate last week to not support a government funding bill unless it defunds the PPACA. Additionally, federal lawmakers will vote this week on a bill that would prevent the Internal Revenue Service from implementing the PPACA.
