Indiana's Franciscan Hospital in Beech Grove to End Inpatient Services

Franciscan St. Francis Health-Beech Grove (Ind.) will officially end all inpatient operations March 16, according to an Indiana Business Journal report.

The closure is expected, as Franciscan announced plans to consolidate Beech Grove operations with the system's Indianapolis campus, Franciscan St. Francis Health, five years ago. The Beech Grove facility was designed to serve as an inpatient hospital, although the vast majority of patients ended up visiting on an outpatient basis.

"Combining the two hospitals under one roof enables us to perform more efficiently, achieve cost-savings, eliminate duplication of services and further enhance the level of care our patients expect and deserve," Bob Brody, CEO of Franciscan St. Francis, said in the report.

The hospital will maintain an outpatient presence in Beech Grove, however. Physical therapy, radiology services and outpatient laboratory services will be offered at least through the fall.
