The financially struggling Caritas Christi is looking into a merger with Landmark, which is in a court-appointed receivership, in order to strengthen its clout with insurers and bondholders and to make the hospital system more appealing to a potential buyer, according to the report.
Officials from the Rhode Island Attorney General’s Office and the Department of Health have promised to carefully consider the merger before approving the move.
