Arizona Lawmakers Receive Threats Over Medicaid Expansion

The Arizona Department of Public Safety is investigating into a threatening email and voicemail sent to state legislators who supported Gov. Jan Brewer's controversial plan to expand the Medicaid program under the federal healthcare reform law, according to a report by the Washington Post/Associated Press.

At least nine lawmakers received an email that asked them to "kill" the Medicaid bill and mentioned the Second Amendment, which grants the right to bear arms. State Rep. Kate Brophy McGee (R-Phoenix), who received a voicemail she found threatening regarding the Medicaid expansion, petitioned House members to urge constituents to be civil, according to the report.

Safety officials have not released the emails, recipients or the sender during the investigation, but said they are taking the matter seriously.
