According to the report, the unnamed patient was admitted to UW Hospital in Madison, Wis., for surgery. Christopher Doro, MD, an orthopedic surgeon at UW Health Orthopedics and Rehabilitation in Madison, Wis., allegedly called the patient’s mother to advise her that the surgery had gone well and the patient’s HIV test result was positive.
The mother, who was not aware of the patient’s HIV status, allegedly arrived at the hospital and “caused a ruckus,” the lawsuit alleges. The patient also alleges the incident caused his family to ostracize him. He also claims to suffer insomnia, panic attacks and bouts of crying as a result of Dr. Doro’s actions, according to the report.
The patient’s lawsuit names Dr. Doro, the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents and Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen as defendants.
