Bogdan Cherascu, MD, accepted a position with the system in August 2008. He entered a non-compete agreement, under which he agreed to not practice medicine within 50 miles of the health system for two years after a voluntary departure, according to the report. If he violated this clause, Dr. Cherascu agreed to pay a designated amount in liquidated damages.
The physician left the health system in June and is currently working at Physician’s Clinic of Iowa in Cedar Rapids, which is roughly 30 miles from UI Hospitals and Clinics. The health system claims it has requested the agreed upon payment from Dr. Cherascu, but he has refused to pay.
The health system claims it has incurred damage from the alleged ordeal, although a monetary amount was not specified in the lawsuit.
