Five Democrats voted against the Health Care Compact bill; all 11 Republicans voted for it.
The bill, which was passed in the Senate last yer, authorizes Tennessee to join a “health care compact” of states. Each would take over administration of federal healthcare programs, including Medicare, as well as about $11 billion in federal funds for coverage of Tennesseans on the program.
Democrats have objected to the bill, saying that Tennessee almost bankrupted the state while handling the TennCare program and was forced to cut back by forcing people off benefits.
