Employees told the Brooklyn Eagle they were informed of the changes around 6 p.m. Wednesday via a phone call from Michael Lucchesi, MD, CMO of SUNY Downstate and LICH.
LICH has been on the brink of closure all year, especially when ambulance services were banned in June and a closure plan was approved by the New York State Department of Health in July — but SUNY Downstate was ordered by a judge to partially restore services at LICH in August. More recently, SUNY Downstate planned to lay off 500 LICH employees in October, but it postponed those plans.
