Here are five things to know about the false claims changes, according to the National Law Review:
1. The Maryland state senate passed an amended state version of the False Claims Act in March.
2. The amended version of the Maryland law contains a number of changes making it less plaintiff friendly. For instance, it limits whistle-blower protections by more narrowly defining the scope of retaliatory conduct that qualifies as actionable under the law.
3. The amended version of the Maryland law also removed the possibility of the government obtaining attorney’s fees for successful false claims actions.
4. In Washington, the state’s Medicaid Fraud False Claims Act is set to expire June 30, 2017, and bills to reauthorize and extend the law have been introduced in both of the state’s legislative houses.
