Vista proposed to build a 132-bed facility in Lindenhurst, Ill., which is 13 miles west of its current facilities. A report from the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board said the new hospital would exacerbate a surplus of hospital beds, as the board said the county already has 86 more beds than necessary, according to the report.
The state board plans to review Vista’s plans Feb. 5. The health system, which is owned by Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems, plans to shift its construction plans by eliminating 108 beds from its two hospitals in Waukegan, according to the report.
Vista proposed building a hospital in Lindenhurst five years ago but was unsuccessful.
