The OIG crafts a work plan each year and considers factors such as concerns raised by Congress, work to be performed in collaboration with partner organizations, top management and performance challenges facing HHS and timeliness.
For 2013, the OIG has decided to review Medicare Part B claims for personally performed anesthesia services to determine whether they were supported by Medicare requirements. The OIG will also be checking claims submitted using certain anesthesia modifiers.
