Orthofix subsidiary Blackstone Medical allegedly paid sham consulting and royalty agreements and provided travel and entertainment perks to influence spine surgeons’ use of its products, according to the report. A specific timeframe for the alleged kickbacks was not included in the news release.
The settlement stems from allegations made in a whistleblower suit. Orthofix has also agreed to enter into a corporate integrity agreement with the HHS Office of Inspector General as part of the settlement.
