Timothy Doyle, 45, of Selden, N.Y., was charged with one count of conspiracy to violate the Anti-Kickback Statute, according to a Dec. 3 Justice Department news release. He has agreed to plead guilty to the charge. A plea hearing date has not yet been set.
From June 2013 through at least September 2020, Mr. Doyle is accused of conspiring with others, including two managers for a mobile medical diagnostics company that performed transcranial Doppler scans, to enter into kickback agreements with physicians. The agreement allegedly paid physicians based on the number of TCD ultrasounds the doctors ordered.
The scheme resulted in $70.6 million in fraudulent claims submitted to Medicare, according to the release.
Mr. Doyle faces a maximum of five years in prison.
