The leaders, led by AHA President and CEO Rich Umbdenstock, urged lawmakers to protect hospital funding, saying U.S. hospitals cannot sustain further cuts, and if further cuts are made, hospital services and jobs could be at risk. The message came as the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction considers plans to reduce the federal deficit by at least $1.2 trillion, which could include cuts in Medicare and Medicaid payments to hospitals.
