The legislation, still being debated in the Senate, calls for $1 billion in new state Medicaid funding over three years, matching an equal amount in federal funds to cover more than 90,000 more people under the new health reform law.
The bill would also allow hospitals to negotiate with the state to limit the number of patients they would treat under the state’s revamped General Assistance Medical Care program, which would start June 1.
