Man with gunshot wound shoots at Va. hospital

When a 52-year-old man with an allegedly self-inflicted gunshot wound arrived at Reston (Va.) Hospital Center at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday morning and found the doors locked, he forced his way in for treatment, according to a local news report from WUSA.

The man fired a round of shots at the door, approached staff, displayed his gun and allegedly fired another round of shots inside the facility, according to the report. No one was hurt, according to the report.

Once hospital security was able to calm the man, he was given medical attention and then transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital’s trauma center in Falls Church, Va., according to the report.

The hospital confirmed incident, and said in a statement it is “safe and secure for both patients and employees,” according to the report. “We are working closely with police investigators, who are in the middle of an ongoing investigation, and we will provide you with further updates as they become available,” the hospital statement said, according to the report.
