The online survey was conducted between Sept. 28, 2011 and Oct. 25, 2011. The final sample included 185 respondents from four sectors: academic/research institutions, healthcare delivery, business/insurance/other healthcare industry and government/labor/consumer advocacy, for a response rate of 14.2 percent.
When asked about specific coverage provisions in the reform law, a large majority of leaders said it was important to move forward with major elements, including insurance market rules (86 percent), Medicaid expansion (79 percent) and premium tax credits (68 percent). Notably, the individual insurance mandate — a controversial component of the law — also received strong support among respondents (84 percent).
