House Republicans to attempt last hurrah in Planned Parenthood battle, for now

Congressional Republicans plan to make one last stand during the Obama administration in the battle to defund Planned Parenthood.

The next attempt — which conservatives say will also be the last until a Republican moves into the White House — will come in the form of a vote on a budget reconciliation bill, according to The New York Times.

This bill includes conditions to block Planned Parenthood funding and repeal the Affordable Care Act. It was already passed by the Senate and is expected to be approved by House Republicans, according to the report. Yet, President Barack Obama has already indicated he will veto the bill, according to the report.

So why bother? The move is meant to draw attention to the issues and demonstrate that the bill can be passed despite votes from Democrats. That way, if a Republican takes office in 2016, the bill could be signed into law, according to the report.

According to previous statements from Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), putting provisions to defund Planned Parenthood in a reconciliation bill has been the plan all along.
