House GOP eyes set of bills targeting ACA taxes

House Republican leaders have set their sights on a package of healthcare bills this fall that aim to dismantle some of the most controversial taxes under the Affordable Care Act, according to The Hill.

Although it is too early to say exactly what will be included or targeted in the package of bills, Rep. Kevin Brady (R-Texas), chairman of the Ways and Means Committee's Health Subcommittee, said House GOP leaders are measuring support on a number of provisions, such as the repeal of the "Cadillac" tax on high-cost health plans. Final decisions about what will be included will come from the full committee and Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), who serves as chairman.

"We're going to continue to focus on ObamaCare implementation, but we're also looking at a number of the tax provisions that need to be repealed," Rep. Brady told The Hill.

It is unclear if President Obama would support any of the small, tax-related amendments to his signature healthcare law. His administration has already stated it does not support the elimination of the "Cadillac tax," a 40-percent excise tax on high-cost plans, according to the report. However, other Democrats have shown some support to eliminate the tax, including Sen. Chris Murphy (Conn.).

Rep. Brady said he is also planning a separate agenda regarding Medicare, which he said would also have to be implemented before next fall, ahead of the election year.
