3 Perks to Attract Physicians to Underserved Communities

Residents transitioning into medical practice are looking for perks to help them financially in the first few years after medical school, according to a Utica Observer-Dispatch report.

Specifically, they tend to look for the following perks: signing bonuses, relocation funds and loan repayment offers. Government programs, such as the federal National Health Service Corps, are helping to satisfy the latter, according to the report.  

NHSC offers student loan repayments to new medical professionals who work in areas designated as Healthcare Professional Shortage Areas, generally in rural communities or poor city neighborhoods.
