Healthcare Reform Office Comes Under CMS Umbrella

The Office of Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight, which was created just after healthcare reform passed and is tasked with implementing reform provisions in the insurance industry, has become part of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, according to a Kaiser Health News report.

The new agency will be led by Marilyn Tavenner, Medicare’s deputy administrator, according to the report.

According to the report, the move may have been in response to anticipated challenges by a Republican House to undo reform as moving the agency under CMS helps to shelter it.
