HCA’s Memorial Hospital in Florida to Pay $178M in Negligence Lawsuit

Memorial Hospital, an HCA facility in Jacksonville, Fla., will pay a man and his family approximately $178 million after the hospital and one of its physicians was accused of medical negligence, according to a Tennessean report.

Clay Chandler filed a negligence lawsuit against the hospital and John DePeri, MD, alleging the healthcare providers failed to diagnose or treat complications from weigh-loss surgery in a timely manner. According to the report, the alleged negligence has left Mr. Chandler in a wheelchair and with speech and sight problems.

 

Officials from Memorial Hospital released a statement expressing sadness at Mr. Chandler’s complications but stopped short of admitting any fault in the negligence case.
