The Department of Health said that Lee County failed to demonstrate that phase 1 of the hospital project would be completed during the period of extension. The request would have been Lee County’s fourth extension.

The county has 30 days to appeal the decision.

The news comes as some Georgia lawmakers look to do away with the certificate-of-need laws.
