Former VA employee pleads guilty to leaking patients, senator’s medical records

A former employee at the Veterans Benefits Administration in Huntington, W. Va., pleaded guilty Sept. 3 to computer fraud, according to MetroNews.

Jeffrey Scott Miller admitted to wrongfully accessing the health records of five co-workers as well as the records of former state Sen. Richard Ojeda. Mr. Miller said he illegally accessed the records between January and May 2018.

Mr. Miller faces six counts of using a computer for unauthorized access to government documents. Prosecutors are seeking one year of prison time, a $100,000 fine and one year of supervised release for each of the six counts.

The sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 9.
