Sandesh Raharam Patil, MD, admitted to making false statements regarding the placement of heart stents and falsely recording the severity of patients’ conditions to receive payment for implanting stents, according to the report.
He reached an agreement with the U.S. Attorney’s Office to serve a prison term between 30 months to 37 months, pending a judge’s approval. He is scheduled for sentencing Aug. 27.
St. Joseph’s Hospital has repaid nearly $257,000 to the government for the falsely billed stent procedures in 2009 and 2010, according to the report.
