Florida man charged for attacking paramedics en route to hospital

Police charged a Florida man with battery after he attacked two paramedics who were transporting him to a hospital Sunday night, reports ABC 15.

The paramedic driving the ambulance told police he looked in the rearview mirror and saw the man, 33-year-old David Parsons, getting off his stretcher and fighting the paramedic riding in the back. After pulling over, the first paramedic opened the ambulance's back door and saw Mr. Parsons holding the second paramedic in a chokehold.

The altercation spilled onto the roadside. When police arrived at the scene, Mr. Parsons was straddling a paramedic on the ground in another chokehold while the other paramedic attempted to pull him off. Police deputy Micah Stoltz had to use his stun gun to make Mr. Parsons let go of the paramedic.

Mr. Parsons was taken to Florida Hospital-DeLand before being transferred to Volusia County Jail on two felony counts of battery. As of Monday afternoon, he was still in jail on $10,000 bail. The paramedics did not suffer any serious injuries from the attack.
