Fla. nurse accused of assaulting patient on life support

A Florida nurse faces a misdemeanor battery charge after allegedly attacking a patient on life support, according to WFTV.

The state issued an emergency order to suspend Deanna Tackett’s nursing license after a camera allegedly recorded Ms. Tackett hitting a male patient in the chest and head, slapping him and forcibly holding him to the hospital bed in an ICU room at Orange City, Fla.-based Florida Hospital Fish Memorial, according to court documents. The alleged incident occured in May.

FHFM released a statement affirming that the hospital took “immediate action” when officials learned of the situation and that Ms. Tackett was “terminated immediately,” according to the WFTV report.

Ms. Tackett’s court date is scheduled for Aug. 15.
