Essentia Health Begins Repayment of $1.2M in Medicare Overpayments

Duluth, Minn.-based Essentia Health said is has refunded $865,000 in Medicare overpayments after an audit found more than $1.2 million is overbillings, according to The Sacramento Bee.

One report found Essentia billed Medicare $3.18 for every dollar the hospital system was owed.

Essentia attributed the overpayments to clerical errors from its billing system. The company has since switched computer systems to correct the errors.
