The 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in July that Walker County must pay Erlanger $8.7 million over debts related to a 2011 loan Erlanger made to the county after Erlanger took over day-to-day operations at the Fort Oglethorpe, Ga.-based Hutcheson Medical Center. The hospital filed for bankruptcy in 2014 and closed for three weeks in 2015 before reaching a new operating deal with Atlanta-based ApolloMD.

Walker County Commissioner Shannon Whitfield called a meeting for Thursday evening to approve the unspecified settlement amount.
