The reason for the requested slow-down? The 1976 Hospital Authority Act that established the public hospital system will be “overhauled” this coming year, according to the report.
State Rep. Gerald McCormick (R) wrote to Erlanger’s chairman of the board that “a prudent delay will allow the board of trustees to have a clear understanding of how this legislation will impact the role of the [CEO],” according to the report.
The representative said local lawmakers have “considered everything from doing nothing to turning [Erlanger] into a private hospital,” according to the report. In the end, the hospital will not be privatized, but he expects state lawmakers will “lean toward reforming the board in some way,” according to the report.
