EMT charged for stealing blank checks from patient during ambulance ride

New Jersey police charged an emergency medical technician with theft and forgery for allegedly stealing blank checks from a patient being transported to a hospital, reports nj.com.

Eric Fernandez, 32, an EMT for a private ambulance company, allegedly signed the patient’s name on two stolen checks, and a woman he lives with, 31-year-old Karian Persaud, allegedly deposited the checks into her account, according to Hillsdale (N.J.) Police Chief Robert Francaviglia.

The patient notified police after discovering the missing checks in early December.

Police charged Mr. Fernandez with third-degree forgery, third-degree uttering a forged document and theft. Ms. Persaud faces charges of third-degree uttering a forged document and third-degree theft by deception.
