Easton Hospital to pay $325k to settle improper Medicare billing allegations

Easton (Pa.) Hospital will pay $325,000 to resolve allegations it billed Medicare for hospital admissions for procedures that should have been outpatient, according to the Department of Justice.

From January 2008 through June 2014, EastonHospital allegedly billed Medicare for inpatient admissions for routine procedures that should have been performed on a less-costly outpatient basis.

The matter was investigated by HHS’ Office of Inspector General  and analyst George Niedzwicki of the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
