Under the policy, cooperation credit can be earned in several ways, including by voluntarily disclosing misconduct and taking proper remedial actions in response to a False Claims Act violation.
Most frequently, the Justice Department rewards cooperation by reducing the penalties or damages sought in a case.
“The Department of Justice has taken important steps to incentivize companies to voluntarily disclose misconduct and cooperate with our investigations; enforcement of the False Claims Act is no exception,” Assistant Attorney General Jody Hunt said in a press release.
