The records were obtained by the law firm of James, James and Joyner.

According to the records, the health system paid Arnell, Golden and Gregory in excess of $4.1 million during the period from 2014 to 2016. The law firm was one of several legal consultants Erlanger used during litigation with WalkerCounty.

Lawyers from James, James and Joyner accused Erlanger of purposefully misreporting their legal fees to Times Free Press, which reported Erlanger spent $42,000 for legal representation.

The legal dispute over Erlanger’s $20 million loan to a now-shuttered Georgia hospital is ongoing.
