Court Puts University of New Mexico Hospital's Flu Shot Policy on Hold

A mandatory flu vaccine policy at the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque has been put on hold by a district court, according to a KOB4 report.

The policy requires employees to be vaccinated against the flu. If they do not get the flu shot, employees face disciplinary action or termination. The policy does include exemptions for employees to refuse the flu shot because of religious or medical reasons.

In November, District 1199 NM of the National Union of Nurses and Hospital Employees — a union representing hospital employees — filed a complaint with the UNM Labor Management Relations Board. The temporary stay of disciplinary action granted by the Albuquerque district court means employees cannot be disciplined or fired for not getting vaccinated until the labor board hears the union's complaint, according to the report.
