Connecticut mental health clinic owner sentenced to 2.5 years in prison for Medicaid fraud

The owner of two Connecticut mental health clinics was sentenced to 30 months in prison for submitting over $1 million in false claims to Medicaid.

According to a June 26 news release from the Justice Department, Gregory Banks owned North East Counseling & Trauma Services and Gregory Banks Counseling, in Danbury, Conn.

Between 2018 and 2022, Mr. Banks submitted $1.04 million in fraudulent claims for services never provided to Medicaid beneficiaries, according to the Justice Department. Mr. Banks was a registered provider with Medicaid, but neither of his businesses were authorized to submit claims to the program, the Justice Department said. In addition, when Mr. Banks was audited by the Connecticut Department of Social Services, he made several false statements to delay the audit and conceal his actions, including falsely claiming that a water leak had destroyed a patient record involved in the audit.
