Community Medical Center in Montana Refunds $158k for Incorrect Outpatient Billing

Community Medical Center, a 146-bed in Missoula, Mont., has paid back the federal government almost $158,000 due to erroneous billing of Lupron injections, according to a report from the HHS Office of Inspector General.

The OIG audited CMC on 57 outpatient claims for Lupron injections. Lupron is a brand-name drug used to treat prostate cancer, breast cancer and other various conditions. The OIG found all 57 claims were billed incorrectly because the hospital "did not have adequate controls to prevent the incorrect billing" of outpatient Lupron injections for Medicare patients, according to the report.

CMC has refunded the government and said it will improve its Medicare billing compliance.
