The last regular, annual updates to the code sets were made in October 2011. On Oct. 1, 2015, there will be only limited code updates to ICD-10 code sets to capture new technologies and diagnoses. Regular updates to ICD-10 will resume on Oct. 1, 2016, according to CMS.
Earlier this month, CMS announced the new date for the ICD-10 transition — which was originally scheduled to take place this October — will be Oct. 1, 2015. The announcement ended the uncertainty following the passage in early April of legislation that stated HHS could not compel providers to switch to ICD-10 before Oct. 1, 2015. That legislation did not provide an exact transition date.
